Materials, machinery and other equipment are often necessary to carry out construction-related tasks. Though many workers may not give a second thought to the equipment they use to complete their duties, it is not unusual for employees to face serious risks due to the type of materials used. Unfortunately, a construction accident could easily occur due to a malfunction or other unexpected event.
North Carolina residents may be interested in such an incident that recently took place in another state. Reports indicated that metal beams were being used as building materials on the construction site when one of the beams fell. The beam apparently came lose from the cable that was holding it, and it was noted that the cable possibly snapped. As a result, the beam fell about 20 feet and landed on a worker below.
The man was pinned to the ground after the beam hit his shoulder and side. Emergency crews arrived at the scene, and the man was taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries. The report stated that he was in critical condition at the time.
Heavy building materials can easily cause a construction accident such as this one. If North Carolina workers have been seriously injured in similar events, they may have a long road of recovery ahead of them. During this time, they may face financial struggles due to medical expenses and lost wages, and as a result, they may wonder if workers’ compensation could help. By obtaining information on these benefits from reliable resources, interested parties may be better able to determine what courses of action they may need to take to potentially obtain compensation.
