Driving a truck is more strenuous than it sounds

For those who want to see the country and get paid to do it, driving a truck can be a rewarding experience. However, it is also a strenuous job, no matter how old you are. Repetitive motions, climbing in and out of the cab, and bending your body to deal with the trailer or freight can cause muscular and skeletal injuries. At The Bollinger Law Firm, PC, we often help truck drivers  who sustained injuries while on the job.

According to All Truck Jobs, the relatively stationary task of driving and the repetitive motion used when shifting gears and pressing the pedals can result in neck, shoulder and back issues over time. Intermittent strenuous activity can increase the possibility of injury.

Tendonitis is among the most common truck driver injuries. Typically, it is the result of twisting or turning improperly or heavy lifting. Sharp pain and inflammation can result, making it difficult to sit at the wheel for long periods. Even the vibrations in the cab from the engine can cause discomfort.   Sometimes, we can get this kind of injury covered in NC workers’ compensation.  Every case is different.

Bursitis is the result of inflamed bursa sacs. These sacs provide fluid to the joints, allowing a normal range of motion. When they become swollen and irritated, movements such as walking and lifting your arms can be painful.   “Impingement syndrome” in your shoulder is often the result of bursitis, and we can usually get this condition covered if it is due to your driving activities.

These injuries often occur when the muscles and joints are not accustomed to bursts of activity. You can take steps that prevent injuries and do not get in the way of doing your job. You can start by stretching and being mindful of posture. Slouching while sitting for long periods, strains your back neck and shoulders.  You can use resistance bands to keep muscles flexible and strengthen your joints.

If you have injuries that occurred as a result of your job, an attorney can help you file a workers’ compensation claim. Visit our webpage for more information on this topic.
