When a work-related accident occurs, many North Carolina residents may be able to react quickly enough to avoid injury. However, other workers may not be so lucky, especially if they are caught off guard by a sudden incident. Being injured at work can have many negative effects, not just the physical ailments. One man in another state may soon be experiencing some of those effects.
Reports stated that the man works for an oil company, and the injury-causing incident in which he was caught involved a fire. The man had apparently attempted to open a well valve when the gas well exploded. The event caused the man to catch on fire. Luckily, a nearby co-worker was able to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flames on the man and move him to safety.
The fire lasted for hours, and flames were 10 feel high at certain points. The man was transported from the scene by medical helicopter in order to be treated for burns he suffered to the lower part of his body. He is expected to survive the injuries.
The effects of being injured at work can be severe. Typically, burns can be especially difficult for individuals to recover from, and as a result, time away from work is often necessary. If North Carolina workers have suffered similar injuries while on the job, they may wonder how they will be able to provide for themselves and their families. Luckily, workers’ compensation may be able to provide needed benefits to help financially.
