A sudden accident on the job can have devastating outcomes. While it is always hoped that such incidents can be avoided altogether or, if not, that the results will be minor, there are often instances in which workers lose their lives or become seriously injured on the job. Unfortunately, many North Carolina families and workers can be affected by a work-related injury.
It was recently reported that an accident in another state had tragic outcomes. Details regarding the event indicated that a crew was working to repair part of a sewer when some of the machinery they were using came in contact with a power line. As a result, members of the crew were seriously affected as the line was carrying approximately 23,000 volts of electricity.
The incident caused one worker to suffer injuries that proved fatal. He was reported as being 30 years old. Two other workers were also injured, but their exact conditions were not known at the time of the report. The incident was being investigated, and it was noted that the company for which the men worked was cooperating with the investigation.
When a fatal or serious work-related injury occurs, it is not uncommon for individuals to seek financial assistance through workers’ compensation. Surviving family members or injured workers themselves may be entitled to certain benefits. However, the applications can prove complex and denials can occur. If North Carolina families or workers have faced difficulties, they may wish to consider enlisting the help of experienced legal professionals to better understand their options.
